So, I was watching The History Channel, Gangland, a show that talks about the history of certain gangs.
The episode I was watching was discussing a particularly violent motorcycle gang, The Warlocks, in Florida.
Here's what caught my eye:

The founder of the gang was being interviewed, and he said something very telling.
He said, "I started the gang because I had just got back from Vietnam with some navy buddies.
We basically did here what we did there."

The previous quote is paraphrased, but that's pretty much what he said.

So, haha, the Warlock gang is based off of military ideology.
They've got all the pieces:
Violence, cooercion, illicit control, fights over territory, etc.

Truly, I think soldiers know what they're doing.
If this guy acknowledges the parallel between his gang, and the way the military works, there's no doubt.

 I don't remember which mafia movie it was, but I've heard actors describe how mobsters based the New York Italian mafia on the italian military, with their capos or captains and the soldiers and the code of honor and all.

But I don't think you know before you know, or that you realize before you realize. Soldiers do realize all the time, and they deffect, or they suicide or they just selfdestruct. And the generals know. Why do you think that they banned Youtube from aircraft carriers during operations over irak and afganistan?

Everybody knows deep down and thus the feelings and the disfunctiolanity.

But these guys in florida sound very despicable indeed.

Have you heard of a lot of instances where this happens? I have never heard of that before, but it makes so much sense for gang members to do that. Do you know if it happens in some countries more than others?
